Physics Electromagnetic Induction All Topic Question for Revision Test MCQ (Single Correct)

A magnet is suspended from a spring and while it oscillates, the magnet moves in and out of the coil C. The coil is connected to a galvanometer G.

Then, as the magnet oscillates,

A
G shows deflection to the left and right with constant amplitude
B
G shows deflection on one side
C
G shows no deflection
D

The correct answer is:
D

Since the magnet will perform SHM, its velocity both increase and decrease as it moves towards and away from the mean position and hence the galvanometer will show deflection on both sides. Since, the amplitude of the magnet will decrease due to eddy current losses, the amplitude of deflection will also decrease with time.
